to Russia

Delegation Leader: Jay E. Berkelhamer, MD, FAAP
President, American Academy of Pediatrics

Program Dates: May 23 - June 1, 2008

A delegation of professionals specializing in pediatrics has been selected to participate in bilateral exchanges with their professional counterparts in Russia, under the auspices of People to People Ambassador Programs.

RUSSIA

With the dissolution of the Soviet Union, visitors have a fresh opportunity to explore a vast array of exciting and ancient cultures and cities, from the stately capital of Moscow to the glittering imperial Russia of St. Petersburg. One of the most notable features of present-day Russia is a renewed celebration of the wealth of its past and its potential for the future. Throwing off the blanket of communist uniformity, Russia today is a nation of enormous diversity and tremendous vitality.

Proposed Itinerary

Topics of discussion for the professional meetings are provided by the delegation leader and are modified to the specific interests of delegates. A final, detailed itinerary will be provided approximately 30 days prior to departure.

The professional counterparts you meet throughout the program will be invited to join the delegation for a meal to allow further interaction between you and your hosts.

Friday, Day 1: New York to Moscow

Depart for Moscow, Russia.

PLEASE NOTE:
Arrival into Moscow will be into Domodedovo Airport (DME). This is a change from past years when most international flights (and some carriers may still) arrive into Sheremetyevo Airport (SVO). Please be aware of this as our group flights will arrive into Domodedovo Airport on Lufthansa Airlines and thus the group transfer upon arrival into Moscow will only be taking place from DME to the group hotel. If you have booked, or are thinking about booking, your own flights to and from Russia please make sure to inquire which airport you will be arriving into and note that you will need to make your own transportation arrangements (you can take a taxi or book a transfer through our office for an additional fee).

Domodedovo is also a hub airport used by several Russian carriers that operate flights from Moscow to numerous destinations throughout Russia. Thanks to the state-of-the-art terminal infrastructure at Domodedovo, Lufthansa will also be able to further optimize its handling processes and thus enhance the quality of its services on the ground.
Saturday, Day 2: Moscow
Explore many of Moscow’s Great Russian Orthodox cathedrals, such as St. Basil’s Cathedral.

Discuss the political and cultural diversity of Russia and receive further information on the delegation
