Tuesday, September 23, Day 1: Individual arrivals into Beijing
Arrive in Beijing, and take advantage of your free time by exploring the city that serves as China’s single greatest repository of monuments and treasures from the Imperial era. Beijing is also the political and administrative center of the People’s Republic of China.
Wednesday, Day 2: Beijing
Program briefing: Discuss the political and
cultural diversity of China and receive further
information on the delegation.
Professional Overview: Status and delivery of
wildlife conservation management and traditional
medicine in China
Professional program focusing on:
- Discuss the major threats to biodiversity in China, and the steps being taken to minimize the effect of these threats
- Investigate the role of “Protected Areas” in China, with examples of in situ wildlife management in specific cases
Guest program:
Spend time with a family in the old Hutong area. Gain an understanding of how the locals really live by immersing yourself in their daily lives, even if only for a short time. Guests will move on to visit the best-kept courtyard house in Beijing,
Gong Wang Fu, or the Prince Gong Palace. Covering 5.7 hectares of land in the core area of Beijing, it is the world's largest and the most beautiful courtyard house. The palace is situated in the Western Street of Qian Hai, on the northern shore of Shicha Lake, Western District, Beijing.
Explore the largest and best-preserved royal garden in China.
The Summer Palace has been an urban oasis for the last 800 years and was restored to its original splendor in the early 20th century.
Thursday, Day 3: Beijing
Delegates and guests will visit the
Forbidden City (Imperial Palace), whose massive stone walls were once the residence of Ming and Qing emperors.
Enjoy breathtaking views from the wall’s high vantage points, and meander along a section set in a rugged, mountainous landscape. The mysteries of construction and conquest have drawn people to the
Great Wall of China for nearly 2,000 years.
Friday, Day 4: Beijing
Professional program focusing on:
- Explore the role of ex situ wildlife management in China, and the extent to which zoos play a part in conservation (eg. Pandas), education and research
- Discuss the illegal hunting of endangered species in China and the steps being taken to prevent this
- Explore the extent to which traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is taught in veterinary schools in China, and the extent to which TCM is integrated with western medicine
Guest program:
Visit the Temple of Heaven. The temple’s compound is one of the largest parks in the city, covering two times the size of the Palace Museum. For hundreds of years, Ming-dynasty emperors came to the Temple of Heaven on the winter solstice to offer sacrifices to the gods in hopes of a good harvest. Larger even than the Forbidden City, it was built in 1420 and is one of the largest parks in the city.
Saturday, Day 5: Beijing to Xi’an
Depart Beijing for Xi’an. As one of the six ancient capitals in China, Xi'an served as the seat of 12 imperial capitals for 1,120 years and is a world-famous treasure house of cultural relics. The world famous Silk Road, which played the role of an important thoroughfare connecting the eastern and western parts of the world, started in Xi’an.
Sunday, Day 6: Xi’an
Delegates and guests will explore the site of the famous life-sized Qin terra cotta warriors — 6,000 figures of soldiers and horses standing guard over the tomb of Qin Shi Huangdi, the first emperor of a united China.
Monday, Day 7: Xi’an

Full day professional program at Shaanxi Rare Wild Animals Feeding & Rescue Center
Shaanxi Rare Wild Animals Feeding & Rescue Center is located at Lou Guantai County, City of Xi’an. There are 27 kinds of wild animals. It’s not only one of 4 biggest panda research center of China, but also the biggest Japanese Crested Ibis research center of the world. It’s the earliest rescue & research center in Northwestern China. It’s one and a half hours drive there.
Guest program:
Explore the Provincial Museum, displaying more than 2,000 ancient artifacts depicting the evolution of Chinese civilization.
Visit the Great Mosque, which is the largest and best-protected mosque in China. Construction of this unique complex began in 742, and its stunning architecture masterfully integrates Islamic and traditional Chinese elements.
Experience the Xi’an City Wall, which was built in the Ming Dynasty. The Ming Dynasty City Wall formed a complex and well-organized system of defense. The city wall itself is a true display of the ability and wisdom of the working people in ancient times. It provides invaluable and substantial material for the study of the history, military science, and architecture of the Ming Dynasty.
Tuesday, Day 8: Xi’an to Kunming
Arrive in Kunming, the capital of the Yunnan province, a 2,000-year-old modern, yet picturesque, city in the south of China. Its sub-tropical climate and the blooming of flowers year-round gave Kunming the name of City of Eternal Spring. The people of Kunming are known for their varied habits and customs, and the city is sprinkled with historical artifacts, places of cultural interest and uniquely landscaped gardens.
Wednesday, Day 9: Kunming

Full day professional program at Yunnan Wild Life Zoo
Yunnan Wild Life Zoo, seven kilometers away from the Kunming City, is situated in the Jindian National Forest Park, neighbored Jindian Reservoir. It covers an area of 2,000,000 square meters. It is the first Wild Life Zoo incorporating wild animal breeding, show and sightseeing. There are Golden Monkey, Indian Elephant, Lesser Panda, Green Peacock, Giraffe, Wallaroo, Flamingo and etc. in more than 200 kinds and totaling more than 10,000 wild animals in the zoo. There are also many wild animal experts in the zoo. And the zoo also functions as a Yunan Provincial Wild Life Rescue Center.
Guest program:
Spend the morning at Green Lake Park and the Golden Palace. Green Lake Park is known as a gathering place where local people sing, dance and play Taiji. Guests may be invited to join the locals. For lunch, guests will have the opportunity to cook their own Dian dishes.
Explore the Yunnan Nationalities Villages, a
wonderful theme park which displays the colorful
folklore and architectures of 25 ethnic groups in
Yunnan Province through shows and performances. The
park has a folklore and wax museum, as well as
replicas of buildings of the 25 ethnic groups’
villages.
Thursday, Day 10: Kunming
Wander through the Stone Forest, one of the most magnificent natural wonders in China.
Delegates and guests will have a chance to explore this unique forest that is made up of gray limestone pillars, split by rainwater and eroded to their present magnificent form.
Interact with the Yi minority, the largest among 25 ethnic minorities in the Yunnan province of China.
