Xi’an and Kunming, China - 2007
At one time the largest
city in the world, Xian is an excellent example of imperial splendor and
served as the capital of 11 dynasties. The 1974 discovery of the
astonishing burial site of Emperor Qin Shi Huangdi (third century B.C.),
make Xian a must-see cultural landmark.
Kunming, the capital of the Yunnan province, is a 2000 year old modern,
yet picturesque city in the south of China. Its sub-tropical climate and
the continual blooming of flowers give Kunming the name “City of Eternal
Spring.” Their people are known for their varied and exotic habits and
customs, and the city is filled with historical artifacts, places of
cultural interest, and uniquely landscaped gardens.

Day One – Arrive in Xian
Spend your afternoon delving into the impressive exhibits of the Shaanxi
Provincial Museum, boasting one of the richest collections of ancient
artifacts in China. You’ll be able to view a vast array of notable
objects, from ancient sandstone and granite animal figures to Neolithic
pottery and jewelry.
Day Two – Xian
A morning excursion takes you to the breathtaking site of the famous Qin
terra cotta warriors. These 6,000 life-size statues of soldiers and
horses perpetually stand guard over the tomb of Qin Shi Huangdi, the
first emperor of a united China, facing east in preparation for battle.
After a refreshing lunch, view the Wild Goose Pagoda. Built in the early
8th century, the pagoda is undoubtedly one of the city’s most
distinctive and
outstanding landmarks.

Day Three – Arrive in Kunming
Upon arrival, you’ll visit the Golden Palace, an ornate structure
replete with Buddhist statues, pillars, door frames, walls and roof
tiles all made of copper. Day Four –
Kunming
Wander through the Stone Forest,
one of the most outstanding natural wonders in all of China. Take time
to explore this unique landmark made of striking gray limestone pillars,
split and formed by rainwater and eroded to their present magnificent
forms. A farewell dinner at the hotel restaurant will complete your day.
Day Five – Depart for the United States
Fly back to the U.S. today via Hong Kong.
