Alumni and world leaders celebrated five
decades of international achievement through an extraordinary journey to
China. Delegates on this alumni program:
- Joined Mary Eisenhower for a formal banquet with Chinese
dignitaries.
- Admired the Great Wall of China during an exclusive dinner. The
event culminated with a release of doves, a symbol of peace
between nations.
- Met with Chinese officials to learn about the history and
government of China.
- Participated in a three-day anniversary celebration with program
executives.
- Explored Beijing’s old Hutong district by rickshaw.
- Visited Tiananmen Square, named for its Gate of Heavenly Peace.
The square contains the monument to the heroes of the revolution,
the Great Hall of the People, the museum of history and revolution,
and the Mao Zedong Memorial Hall.
- Explored the heritage behind the Forbidden City.
- Enjoyed a kung fu exhibition and a presentation by a local
children’s choir.
- Saw rare giant pandas at the Beijing Zoo.
- Learned the effects of British and American economic policies as
they walked along the Bund, an economic hub on the Huangpu River in
Shanghai.
- Enjoyed the classic architecture and tranquility of the Jade
Buddha Temple.
